The blue line
Submitted by Graver on Wed, 07/12/2006 - 09:38. So I Says to Maybel, I Says...Found this on the front page of Google News. Another Grinnellian in a slightly more dubious limelight. We're all glad you're alright, Marti.
AP story:
Marti Palermo escapes the Blue Line

Get Your Ass To Mars!
Er... Champaign, I mean. I haven't been involved in a single train fire since arriving in Champaign.
(The Blue Line bar on Damen was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title. I thought maybe there had been a riot over excessively high PBR prices.)

EVerybody knows rita
awesomely, that reporter fabricated each of those quotes. i'd even met ms. rita bacon (her real name) before, through marti.
a more accurate account of her travails is located on the chicago tribune website ("one victim's story" - guh!?), for the registered. it's unclear how she became a media darling.
in champaign marti's accordian bus will be stretched to a hilariously dangerous extreme before springing back and launching her (somehow) into the front office of the news-gazette...

media darling = good name (not Rita Bacon)
She's a media darling because her name is MARTI PALERMO. The first time I heard her name was, I think, the first weekend I went to a party in Chicago with the jeaun crew. I announced then and there that Marti Palermo was the best name ever. I stand by that claim. (I did not, however, meet Ms. Palermo until a later date.)
