Know anyone who designs video games?

Hey Jeaun. I gots a question.

An editor at my textbook job is looking for someone who designs video games, or at least works on them in some fashion, to interview for a short profile to highlight how "technology yields adventure."

Given the number of hip geeks with connections to Jeaun, I figure someone's gotta know someone.

Anyone?

I'm guessing the countless hours I spend playing Civ don't count as working 'on' a video game.

I seem to remember a game I played on my Macintosh SE that let you design your own levels. That might count? I think it was called Space Station Theta. Or something. The protagonist was a stick figure, and the space station consisted mainly of ladders.

As game programming is my eventual career goal, I wish I knew someone who designs video games or works on them in some way. Unfortunately I do not. My best piece of advice is to call up Midway games who are based in Chicago and ask them for someone to interview.

Yeah, Midway likes to send out guest speakers (and probably interviewees) in an effort to recruit developers.

Game development is typically very very long hours and low pay (unless you get points)

I met a guy this summer who was somehow affiliated with my cousin's new fiancee who did sound for Midway games. Some guy cut in front of him in the keg line and me punched him in the chest and pulled out his still-beating heart and held it above his head in a victorious pose, except that he just did the sound part.

... but for the record, yes, Camille does know some people in that biz. She has one homeboy who works on Halo, and one homegirl who works on the new Will Wright joint ("Spore", I think). I have met both of said selfsames on one occasion or two, but know neither of them well enough to go furnishing introductions. So it's just as well that this took care of itself before I showed up.

A friends brotherf in law used to work at Midway but is now moving into animated movies. Does that still count? Still not saying I can definitely get him for you but wanted to make sure he fit the bill before even trying.

I told her to contact Midway and then... I quit the job. So, you can all stop worrying, and rest safe in the knowledge that you did some good, and that a bunch of little kids are going to learn that video games are an appropriate topic for scholastic material.
