Submitted by wadsbone on Sun, 10/17/2004 - 20:56. AnnouncementsThis is the rough version of the new jeaun.com format. New galleries and new forum entries will appear on the front page. You can create new forum threads from the 'Forum' link on the top of the page. You'll have to register before you can post either main topics or replies to topics. Anyone can register and post on the site if they have a valid e-mail address. The style is still a work in progress; I'll be continuing to snazz it up in the near future.
If you notice anything weird, ugly, unpleasant, or stupid, post a reply to this thread, and I'll do my best to take care of it. I've been surprised at the level of control that I've got over how things work with this setup, so go ahead post the suggestion, even if it seems a little ambitious.
Note: I suggest changing any of your links to the site to use just 'jeaun.com' rather than 'www.jeaun.com'. There's a bug with the cookies when you log in on 'www.jeaun.com'. I'm working on fixing it, but it's going to take a while, and I really wanted to get this out.

Re:This Particular
Irritant: When I'm on a forum page, and I click on "Login", it redirects me to the front page rather than the original page after I've logged in successfully.

Re:I Forgot The Register Link
Yeah, you did. Asshat.
But anyway, I like it. I'm glad we've switched.
Mazeltov.

I Forgot The Register Link
I forgot to add the registration link. I suppose that's pretty important. Yep, I'm the asshole, today, folks.

Re:Error Messages On Entering Forum Area
I saw these errors as well, but, as you say, they went away with no apparent harm done.

Re:Error Messages On Entering Forum Area
I think I may just need to change the php error_reporting to be less sensitive.

Error Messages On Entering Forum Area
Okay, this error thing seems to happen the first time a logged in user enter's the forum area. It's ugly, annoying, possibly dangerous, but everyone can still post, so maybe it ain't no big thing.
Here's the error for future reference:
Warning: in_array(): Wrong datatype for second argument in /hsphere/local/home/wadsbone/jeaun.com/mambo/components/com_simpleboard/thread.php on line 94
I also got one of these:
Notice: Duplicate entry '64' for key 1 in /hsphere/local/home/wadsbone/jeaun.com/mambo/includes/database.php on line 184
Not sure what's going on there. I thought it had something to do with duplicate logins because of the www.jeaun.com versus jeaun.com issue, but I don't think that happened this time.
Computers suck.

Re:This Particular
When I created a new user through the admin console and then accessed the SB forums with that user, I saw some error messages at the bottom of the screen. It seems to go away after the first access, though, so it may be that there is something is not set up correctly for SB if the user is created from the admin console...
The point is, I don't think it's anything to worry about, but I'll try to look into it at some point.

RSS Feeds
Bien venidos and shit. There should be an RSS feed built-in to this forum, but the link is suspiciously absent...
If I can't make it appear magically, I'll write one. They're pretty easy to put together.

You Can Get With This...
... or you can get with that.
Here's a link to the RSS Feed. It's not very pretty, and it's RSS 0.91, which is a bit old and rickety. That's what happens when you don't drink your milk, like Mr. T says.
Anyway, I might write another one that shows only new threads rather than an entry for each new response, basically an aggregation of the Home page.

Re:This Particular
wadsbone, where's the RSS feed at?
...and per your tuman's suggestion, here's my post...

Re:News Readers
Sweet, thanks. I'm Sharpening up as I write.
/needs a clever signature

News Readers
If you're using a PC, I'd suggest SharpReader. It's free and it works really well. The only downside (if it is a downside) is that you have to install the .Net Framework from MS. It's easy to do; you can get it from Windows Update. I'd say it's worth the trouble.
On a Mac, I'd suggest NetNewsWire Lite, or if you're feeling spending, you can get the full version, but I haven't seen the need for it.

Re:This Particular
So what RSS newsreader do y'all use? I've never played around with that before, so this is new to me, but I figured it would be a nice way to save time whilst procrastin.

Re:This Particular
check one, check. sibilance. sibilance.

Re:Getting Logged Out
Are you linking to the site at www.jeaun.com? If you log in on www.jeaun.com, it will redirect you to jeaun.com, where the authentication cookie is invalid. It's pretty lame, but there's not much I can do until I move to a new service provider where I've got more control over the domain settings. (Also a service provider that responds to support requests. Vilitas is totally fired.)
If it's not the www.jeaun.com thing, I don't know what it is. If it's something else, let me know when it happens, versions of browsers, etc.

Most Recent Posts
As far as recent posts, if you are logged in and go to the Forum link on the top nav bar, you'll go to the forum list page that will display a red [New] link on any forum or category that has posts that you haven't read. I was considering putting that latest post list on the page, but I think that the main forum page should be sufficient. It also keeps the main page uncluttered, but I'm willing to do it if everyone wants it.

Re:This Particular
Site looks good. I am having some possibly Maccentric problems though while surfing it from work. I keep getting logged out while in either Safari or IE.
Beyond that I am constantly looking for the recent posts on the left hand side. It was how I most quickly navigated the previous jeaun. I think it also helped to keep topics "alive" longer if you feel me... which depending on your stance or thread in particular might be good or bad.....
