The Real Dobalina

"Dobalina" is slang for corporate white people trying to front a more urban appearance or posing as someone who is cool with the lower working class whilst clearly not comfortable with it.
"But it isn't happenin' ya fraudulent foes/ You used to front big time now I suppose/ That everything's cool since the style you've adopted/ You used to make fun of but now you wanna rock it"
"Dobalina" is almost synonymous to the "Romney", slang used for corporate white people trying to front a more blue-to-red-collar appearance or posing as someone who is cool with those who would own a non-luxury vehicle whilst clearly uncomfortable with it.
Plus, Bob Dobalina is crazy fun to say over and over again ;)

Robert Dovalina

It's actually about Robert Dovalina from San Antonio, TX. He's 75 years old and one of my customers and he just finished telling me the story. His employee called him Bob Dobalina due to her strong accent. The Monkees heard the name being called out and had him paged to hear it again. They needed one last short song to finish their album and somehow chose to make a song after his catchy name.

Bob Dobalina was an IBM guy who got lost at the heathrow airport. His fellow coorporate collegues from the US, was panicing and awarded a finders fee through the speaker system. He became a joke in britains newspapers about american coorporate guy's that are so stuid that they like kids, get lost on airports so that their bosses have to call for them as missing. After this it became a sport through out in Europe to report Mr Bob Dobalina as missing.

The Monkeys was the first to put in a song.

...deal with any of this for the rest of my life.

The process to me is completely child-like. More than anything I hate providing references too. I guess we do have our judges out there. Makes me fee like a sixth grader at the start of an Algebra test.

It's from The Monkees' song "Zilch" on their album "Headquarters", released in 1967. You can find the album on iTunes if you don't have it on a record.

He was on WFAN radio in NY and said that one of their recording engineers heard the guy paged in an airport

"Mr Dobalina, Mr Bob Dobalina..."

And was just taken by the sing-song aspect of it.
